Questions about beach trip planning from Akron and each reservation
These are the questions travelers ask us most about beach trip planning from Akron, from what a figure includes to what happens on the day you check in. If yours is missing, write through the request form or call on a phone day, and we will answer it for your own dates.
Fees, gates, dogs and Wednesday letters
Is there a fee from the office for planning?
Nothing. There is no planning fee and no booking fee, whether you take the quote, ask for a change or let it go. The hotel pays our office a commission after your stay is over, and that is how the office is paid.
Who takes the payment, and why not this site?
The hotel does, at its own front desk, where it registers you and sets its own cancellation terms. No payment is ever taken on this website, because our part is planning and asking the hotel to hold the room after your yes. If the hotel wants a card to secure the room, it asks you directly.
What is inside each figure on the site?
A figure covers the room for two for the listed nights at our working rate for the named month, plus any resort, amenity or parking fee the hotel charges every guest. We lift the two-person total to a round $10 mark, then halve it and lift that half to a round $5 mark for the per-person line.
Are taxes included in the figures?
No. State and local lodging taxes are added by the hotel on top of the figure. Your written quote lists the taxes the hotel will add, so you can see the full picture before you say yes. Fuel, tolls, meals and anything optional are also outside the figure.
Do I need beach tags or passes?
It depends on the town. In Ocean City NJ and Cape May, tags are required in season for anyone 12 and older. Chincoteague's beach sits inside a wildlife refuge that charges a vehicle pass, while walking or cycling in is free. Wildwood Crest needs no tags. Your quote names any local charge that applies.
Do we need a gate pass at Lakeside?
Lakeside is a gated summer community, and a pass is needed to enter in season. The hotel package in our Lakeside stay includes two adult four-day passes and South Gate car parking. Anything beyond those two passes is outside the figure, and the quote will say so plainly.
Why is the catalog sorted by the sun?
We measured which way each beach faces and where the sun rises and sets on July 15 there. Beaches where the summer sun sets over the water come first, then those where it rises over the water, then two where it stays along the shore. Within a group, the more squarely the sun sits ahead of you, the earlier the stay.
What does July 15 mean for other months?
The direction a beach faces never changes. The sun does move: in early summer it rises and sets further north, and by September it sits further south. The numbers on each page are for July 15; in June and in September the sun rises and sets at other points on the horizon.
How many hours in the car does each beach take?
The shortest drives are Huron at 76 miles, about 1 hr 37 min, and Geneva-on-the-Lake at 76 miles, about 1 hr 40 min. The longest is Nags Head at 589 miles, about 12 hr 13 min. These times are computed by OSRM without traffic, and real drives take longer.
Which months does the office plan each stay?
Most stays run June to August or June to September, as each stay page lists. Lakeside is planned in June and August, Sunday to Thursday. Outside a stay's months we do not plan it, so if your dates fall elsewhere, ask and we will tell you which stays fit your week.
Does a hotel set a minimum number of nights?
Each figure in our catalog is built on 2, 3 or 4 nights, and the request form can ask for a different number. If a hotel sets its own minimum for your dates, the office learns it when we ask about the room, and the quote tells you before you decide.
Should I buy travel insurance for the trip?
That is your own decision. Our office does not arrange travel insurance, and we do not advise on which plan to pick. If you want coverage, look into it yourself before you leave. The hotel's own cancellation terms are printed in your quote, which can help you decide.
What ID will I need at check-in?
The ID you present at check-in is the hotel's rule, and the front desk decides what it accepts. If you are unsure, mention it in your request and we will ask the hotel when we check on the room, then note the answer in your quote.
Can we bring children along?
Yes. Tell us how many children are coming and their ages in your request, so we ask the hotel for a room that fits everyone. In towns that need beach tags, children under 12 do not need one, because tags apply to anyone 12 and older.
Can our dog come on the trip?
Whether a dog can stay is the hotel's own policy, and it varies from one hotel to another. Mention your dog in the request, with its size if you can, and we will ask the hotel before writing the quote. The answer goes into the quote in plain words.
Can you find an accessible room?
Yes, we can ask. Describe what you need in the request, such as a step-free entry or a room on the ground floor, and we put those questions to the hotel when we ask about a room. The quote names the exact room the hotel offers, so you can check it fits.
Where do we park the car?
It varies by town. At Erie we count a parking allowance of up to $16 a night inside the figure, which the quote confirms. Virginia Beach city lots near the oceanfront cost $2 an hour in season, and Rehoboth Beach street meters cost $4 an hour from May 15 to September 15 in 2026. The quote lists parking charges for your stay.
What happens on Wednesdays?
Wednesday is our day for letters. The phone is off, and every written request in by noon is answered by 5 p.m. that day, as on other weekdays. If your check-in is within three days, write with "check-in this week" at the top and you get a reply within two hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
How do I change dates or cancel?
Before you say yes, reply to the quote and ask for other nights, and we ask the hotel again. After the room is held, write, or call the office on a phone day, and we pass the change or cancellation to the hotel. You can also call the hotel's desk yourself. Its own cancellation terms, printed in your quote, decide what either one costs.
What if the hotel has no room for our nights?
Then nothing is held and nothing is paid. We tell you plainly and suggest nearby dates or another stay from the beach stays catalog that fits your week. You can take a new quote, ask for something else, or let it go.
